Cherry Picker Hire Melbourne
A cherry picker is a boom lift with a work platform, or bucket, on the end of an extending arm. It lifts you up and reaches out over obstacles, something a scissor lift can’t do. Duralift’s cherry picker hire covers the full boom range, from the compact tracked Jibbi to 135ft diesel giants, all dispatched from our Bayswater North yard.
We hire cherry picker models by the day or the week, and every cherry picker for hire gets a full service and safety check before it leaves the gate.
Choosing a Cherry Picker Lift
Two styles of cherry picker lift cover most jobs. Knuckle booms bend at the joint, so the basket can climb over a shop awning or factory racking and drop down on the other side. Straight booms extend in one line for maximum outreach, which suits facades and sites where you can’t park close to the building.
Our knuckle booms come in 30ft, 34ft, 40ft, 45ft, 51ft, 60ft, 80ft, 125ft and 135ft sizes, across electric and diesel. Straight booms run 46ft, 66ft, 86ft, 125ft and 135ft. On sloping driveways and embankments, the Jack Boom puts down outriggers to level itself before you go up.
Small cherry picker hire usually means one of our 30ft or 34ft electric knuckle booms, which run on battery for indoor jobs, or the tracked Jibbi. The Jibbi works as a mini cherry picker for tight sites: it levels itself on slopes and fits through narrow paths and up car park ramps.
At the other end of the yard, a big cherry picker machine like our 86ft, 125ft or 135ft booms handles high-rise glazing, signage and steel structures. There’s a shot of our 60ft diesel knuckle boom at the Royal Exhibition Building in the gallery if you want a sense of scale.
Hire a Cherry Picker with Duralift
Cherry picker rental runs on daily and weekly rates, and you’ll deal with the same contact from first call to collection. Delivery comes with a two-hour window, so you know when to have someone waiting at the gate. The fleet is predominantly new, and if a machine does play up mid-hire, our fix-or-swap guarantee means it gets repaired or replaced.
Outreach matters as much as height. A sign 15m up but set 10m back from where the machine can park needs a boom rated for both, so give us the setback along with the height.
Send us the working height and anything sitting between the machine and the work, and we’ll recommend the right boom. Call 1300 580 580 to book.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is a cherry picker used for?
Cherry pickers give access to work that's high up and awkward to reach straight on, such as gutters, signage, lighting, facade repairs and steel erection. The boom lets the basket move up, out and over obstacles.
What affects cherry picker hire cost?
A few things shape the price:
- Height and type: a 135ft diesel boom costs more per day than a compact electric knuckle boom.
- Hire length: weekly rates suit jobs that run longer than a few days.
- Delivery: your site location affects transport.
Is there cherry picker hire near me?
If you're in Melbourne, yes. Our yard is in Bayswater North and we deliver across the metro area and surrounding regions, so there's nothing to pick up or tow.
Can I rent cherry picker equipment for one day?
Yes. Single-day hire is available, and longer bookings run on weekly rates.
What licence does a cherry picker operator need?
For any boom of 11m or longer, the operator needs a WP high risk work licence. Smaller booms generally need Yellow Card training before you'll get onto site. Duralift can connect you with accredited RTO courses for both.
Do you have a trailer mounted cherry picker or truck mounted cherry picker hire?
Not at this stage. Our cherry pickers are self-propelled and arrive on our delivery trucks, so you don't tow anything. A trailer cherry picker can suit light domestic jobs, but on commercial sites a self-propelled knuckle boom usually reaches further and repositions under its own power.
Should I hire a cherry picker or a scissor lift?
It comes down to the access you need:
- Cherry picker: the work sits behind or above an obstacle, or you need sideways reach.
- Scissor lift: the work is directly overhead and you want a bigger platform for two people and materials.
